From 3D Realms: The third chapter in the Duke Nukem series, and the first with a 3D perspective, Duke Nukem 3D is set sometime in the early 21st century, in a ravaged L.A. that was overtaken by aliens while you, as Duke, were being abducted during Duke Nukem II. Duke, upon returning to Earth, finds himself with another mess to clean up and another alien race to exterminate. Duke is a can-do hero who realizes that sometimes innocent people have to die in the quest to save Earth, so gunfire accuracy is not a real concern to him. This game includes a long list of cool features that haven't been attempted in 3D action games before, including a mine that sends out a laser trip beam and can be placed on any wall--perfect for multiplayer games. There's also a shrinker ray that reduces an opponent to the size of a G.I. Joe, at which point they become foot fodder. You can swim underwater and shoot players who are outside the water or vice versa.

OverviewKill countless aliens while rescuing babes as Duke Nukem in this critically acclaimed first-person shooter. An addition to the popular Duke Nukem franchise.
SpiralPegasus rates this game: 5/5'It's time to chew bubblegum and kick ass.. and I'm all outta gum!!'
The Duke is one of those game characters in the hall of fame, just like Mario, Sonic, Pac Man.. except on a whole different category.
DN3D could be called the biggest overhaul in the history of gaming. 3D Realms took a bland and common platformer that lacked appeal and transformed it into one of the most iconic games ever released for PC - a FPS that was certainly not the first in the genre and not necessarily one with the best looks.
Instead, what made this game so unique were two.. no, wait, three things:
- Duke itself was the most bad ass character around (and for some, he still is today). He had a unique personality - that alone helped DN3D gain popularity.
- The main theme is fucking awesome, Even the hard rock world-wide known band Megadeth did a cover of it!
- The game on itself was so-over the top, walking a line between 'way past cool' and just plain funny.
Doom or Duke? Why not both?
However if I could only have one, I'd get the Duke, any day!
Give it a go, you'll find out why it's the most downloaded in this section!

Game Review
Duke Nukem 3D is a sci-fi first-person shooter created by 3D Realms and published by GT Interactive Software for PC in 1996.
The game is the sequel of Duke Nukem and Duke Nukem II, two shooters/platformers created by Apogee Software. 3D Realms was a new division of Apogee, dedicated to 3D games, and Duke 3D was their second title (after Terminal Velocity).
The game is considered a real classic and one of the games that made the genre of 3D first-person shooters so famous. Probably the only example more famous than Duke Nukem 3D is Doom, created three years before. 3D Realm's game took a lot of inspiration from id Software's masterpiece, but is superior in some aspects, including gameplay, puzzles, interaction and destructible environment. Duke 3D also has more story and gives players the ability to jump, crouch, and fly.
There's a lot of discussion about which game is better, but you don't have to choose, just download all of them and have fun!

Blond, buff, and brazen Duke Nukem moves from side-scroller to first-person shooter with Duke Nukem 3D. The action begins in a futuristic Los Angeles, which has been decimated by an alien invasion. To save his cherished planet, Duke vows to kick some posterior and chew gum -- and he's all out of gum. What follows is a tongue-in-cheek shooter filled with offbeat weapons, cheesy one-liners, and numerous pop culture references. Over the course of three chapters and 28 levels, Duke will battle aliens and mutants on city streets, in outer space, and everywhere in between.
Belying its title, the game does not feature a true 3D graphics engine. Instead, Duke Nukem is populated with sprite-based enemies lurking throughout 2D environments designed in a way to resemble three-dimensional space. Notable features include bullet holes appearing in walls, destructible furniture, and interactive objects such as phone booths, toilets, pool tables, security cameras, and arcade games. Each level also contains secret rooms and passages waiting to be discovered.
Duke Nukem can attack enemies with one of ten weapons, or if he runs out of ammo, perform a swift kick with his mighty foot. Among the more noteworthy armaments are pipe bombs, laser-activated trip bombs, plasma cannons, shrinkers, and expanders. Choices unlimited keys and diamonds a…. Shrinkers reduce enemies to a fraction of their size, while expanders inflate enemies until they explode. In addition to the single-player campaign, Duke Nukem 3D offers cooperative as well as competitive action for up to eight players. Also included with the game is a built-in editor for designing custom levels.
Aliens have landed in futuristic Los Angeles and it's up to the Duke to bring the pain and show them the door. After the initial entries of side-scrolling platform games, Duke Nukem 3D introduces a first-person perspective to the series and turns the game into a full-fledged shooter with 2.5D graphics.
Duke's arsenal includes pistols, pipe bombs, laser trip mines, Nordenfelt guns, a chain gun and various rocket launchers, but also his mighty foot to kick enemies. The game sports a high level of interactivity. Many objects in the environment can be broken or interacted with, such as pool tables, arcade machines, glass, light switches and security cameras. The protagonist is also able to hand strippers a dollars to have them remove their top.

The main character regularly delivers commentary on the events through one-liners. There are twenty-eight levels, divided over three episodes, set in locations such as streets, a church, a space station, a Japanese villa, a football field and many modern environments. Enemies mainly include aliens, mutated humans and members of the police force that have been turned into Pig Cops. Next to weapons, Duke also has access to medikits, steroids to enhance his speed, night vision, protective boots, a hologram known as the 'holoduke', and a jetpack to reach higher areas. Most of the gameplay is action-oriented, but there is also an amount of puzzles needed to progress or access secret areas.
The game includes network play through the IPX protocol, for deathmatch and cooperative games.

Games like Duke Nukem 3D laid the foundations for the 3D shooter genre, eventually spawning incredible gaming experiences like the outstanding Tomb Raider, which has become so popular it's been used to promote everything from cereal to gambling in the form of online pokies - a kind of Australian slot machine based on poker. Check it out, I'm not joking! It's actually pretty good.. Even though implied by it's name, Duke Nukem 3D is not really a 3D game. It's actually a 2D game, first FPS in the Duke Nukem series.
The story line implies that aliens have taken over futuristic Los Angeles, and there's only one man who can take care of them - Duke!
One of the best things about this game, which contributed to the mass success of this title, besides the variety and originality of weapons (such as the Shrinker, a piece which shrunk your enemies, and you could then step on them like they were small bugs), is the humoristic details throughout the game. Some of them are remarks made by Duke himslef (such as 'Damn, I'm looking GOOD!' when looking at a mirror), or even with monster behaviour. For example, in the first episode, when you enter the bathroom and open the door, you will encounter a monster in the middle of.. taking. hmm. A CRAP.
Indeed an amusing contribution to the FPS genre.
Graphics and sounds are excellent, making the Duke theme a classic!
